Ideal for PA systems requiring battery backup. The design incorporates a two stage high voltage SCR controlled charging circuit, providing protection against high voltage power line transients. Two stage battery charging minimises the risk of sulphation of the battery plates thus extending battery life, whereas single stage float charging limits yield to around 85%. In the event of 240V mains power failure the voltage sensing circuitry automatically disconnects from the battery thus preventing discharge back through the charger. This feature is especially important where charger power is removed for an extended period as the battery may discharge beyond recovery. For standby operation, the charger is connected to the batteries permanently. The circuitry ensures “boost voltage” is reached quickly minimising electrolyte gassing which greatly reduces battery life and performance, especially with sealed lead acid batteries. The power and sensing circuits are “opto coupler isolated” preventing harmful mains generated power transients.

Mains failure battery backup operation: With mains power failure the connected batteries are relay switched to the load via two 50A terminals. A sensing circuit disconnects the load when the minimum permissible discharge voltage is reached, thus preventing permanent battery damage. This charger has been specifically designed for use on sealed lead acid batteries, gel technology batteries and standard vented lead acid batteries.
